About Us - Scientia Publishing House – Sapientia Hungarian University of Transylvania

Scientia Publishing House is the publishing house of Sapientia Hungarian University of Transylvania, founded in 2001. Its activity is organized in accordance with the university’s mission and strategy for educational and scientific development, its main objective being the publication of scholarly volumes, teaching materials, and academic journals, thereby contributing to the development of higher education and the advancement of science in Romania.

Under the imprint of the publishing house, scholarly publications appear predominantly in Hungarian. At the same time, the publishing house also issues books in Romanian, English, as well as bilingual and multilingual editions, thereby contributing to the visibility of university research, the diversification of national and international professional partnerships, multilingualism, and intercultural dialogue as universal values.

Scientia Publishing House operates on the basis of the regulation approved by the University Senate, and its activity is carried out according to the annual publishing plan approved by the University Administration Council. All manuscripts are evaluated in accordance with the evaluation guidelines.

Scientia Publishing House publishes both printed and electronic publications. The publications are assigned ISBN/ ISSN identifiers; all articles published in the university journals, as well as selected scientific and conference volumes, are also assigned DOI identifiers.

The series of Scientia Publishing House are: Sapientia Volumes, University Textbooks, Lecture Notes, Workshop, History of Science, Transylvania XXI, and Pontes Transylvaniae.

The series cover seven academic fields: humanities, social sciences, exact and natural sciences, law and economics, engineering sciences, and medical sciences.

• Sapientia Volumes series includes volumes presenting the results of original scientific research conducted by full-time or associate academic staff, doctoral dissertations, monographs, treatises, and related scholarly works.
• University Textbooks series publishes university textbooks prepared by full-time or associate academic staff in the fields included in the university curricula.
• Lecture Notes series includes teaching materials, practical educational guides, laboratory manuals, and other supplementary educational resources.
• Workshop series brings together edited proceedings of conferences, workshops, and other academic events organized within or in cooperation with Sapientia University.
• History of Science series includes works accepted through the open competition launched by the publishing house between 2015 and 2020, dedicated to topics related to the history of science, art, literature, or technology with relevance to Transylvania.
• Transylvania_XXI series was first launched in May 2021 and is dedicated to publishing works in the humanities and social sciences addressing the issues and challenges of the 21st century.
• Pontes Transylvaniae series is the publishing house’s newest collection, launched in 2025 in collaboration with L’Harmattan Publishing House from Budapest. This series publishes selected volumes on history, philosophy, culture, and sociology authored by academic staff and researchers of Sapientia University.

The electronic versions of the publications are published in Open Access format and can be downloaded free of charge from the REAL digital repository of the Library of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.

Publications in the fields of social sciences and humanities are also available in the Central and Eastern European Online Library database (CEEOL).

Scientia Publishing House holds a CNCS B classification in the field of Philology.
