Even the smallest matters. Factors influencing student performance in Hungarian minority education in Romania
This volume examines the complex system of factors influencing student achievement among Hungarian students in Romania, based on the results of the national competency assessment. Through a combined analysis of macro-, meso-, and micro-level effects, the author explores the roles played by educational policy measures, the school and community environment, family background, and individual characteristics in student performance. The research is based on a unique database created by linking questionnaire surveys and competency assessment results among fourth-grade students in Covasna County. The results highlight the importance of the preparatory class, the positive impact of extracurricular activities, and the close correlations between socioeconomic status and academic performance. The volume contributes to a deeper understanding of the factors underlying student performance and provides an empirical foundation upon which effective educational strategies can be developed and refined.
